What's on your heart and mind today?

 in response to demoine...

No I can't get food stamps. I have already tried. My unemployment was too much. But it barely pays the regular bills. It doesn't cover my medication. I have to take twenty dollars a week for food for me and my cats and take it from something else. I was turned down.

What's on your heart and mind today?

in response to 21 and mom of twins...   Your children are younger and won't remember if there birthday isn't what you want it to be. It will hurt you more than them. Try calling legal aid and see if they can help on the taxes. If not call the bar association for your state. They can tell you what can and can't be done. It's a difficult situation. But your sons will be happy as long as you are happy and they are loved. Good Luck to you and God Bless

What's on your heart and mind today?

 in response to Roseb441702...

I am not knocking food stamps and I don't know wher eyou got that idea. However, I can't get food stamps because I have unemployment which only covers my rent, electric and other monthly bills. I have no grocery money. I know single ladies everyday who are denied food stamps because they don't have children. I know single men who can't get food stamps because they are men. I know single women with children who get more food stamps than they can use. How does it balance out. My point is that we don't look out for the senior citizens who have paid into the system all of their life and one day comes and you are told you are to old and your job lets you go and there is no help. Your children are raised. You better have been fortunate enough to have had a nest egg. I wasn't. I am sorry you misunderstood.

If you are a medicaid coordinator could you please explain to me why people needing wheelchair ramps have so much difficulty getting them and what they have to do to be able to get a ramp.

Social Security

in response to Starshine...   This country treats animals better than people. we put them out of their misery when the time is right. However, the disabled and theaged are forgotten and not cared for. Other countries care for their senior citizens and see that they have respect and some quality of life. Here you are on your own. If you are lucky enough to have family members that care you have it better than others. However, the majority have no one and have to fend for themselves with no help. It is time that this country stands up for it's own. There are many people who live across the border using Post office boxes to recieve social security checks. No one should be allowed a social security check unless they have become a citizen of the United States. Even then social security cards and work permits aren't monitored enough. Many people get legal social security cards take them across the board and give them to family members and since there are no dealth records from other countries you have 2 or more generations working on the same card and eventually drawing social security. there needs to be a monitoring system. The whole system is currently messed up and people like you and me will pay the price.

What's on your heart and mind today?

in response to BIGTOM1...   I hope that you aren't judging people who aren't working and asking for help. I worked for over forty years teaching special education. I raised two sons alone with no help. I frequently worked two and three full time jobs. I also took time to be a Cub Scout Den Leader, involved in little league, football, wrestling, church, community choir for children and any other activity that my sons wanted to be in. I was involved in the special olypics and taught league bowling to special education students. I have reached out and done much community work. However, now at the age of 59 no one had better tell me to get a job. My body is so worn out that I go days without being able to put a pair of shoes on. I have degenerative arthritis, anemia, edima, vitamin D Deficiency, a skin dermititous which causes horrific lesions that itch like crazy, I have severe depression. I am in horrific pain and if It's a good day I can stand for 15 minutes with support. I can't walk more than one fourth of a block. Getting in and out of the car is difficult. I have asthma and just going outside affects my ability to breathe. I would love to have the health that would allow me to work but I am doing the best I can. My father said don't judge a person until you have walked a mile in their shoes and I think that fits you. How dare you imply that because you have two jobs everyone should get one. You don't know them or what they are up against. You need to clean your own house before you start cleaning someone elses.

What's on your heart and mind today?

in response to Roseb441702...   Social services does nothing to help anyone without children. The only thing older people can get is food stamps. Then it's hard to get them if you have any income at all. You really need to find a grant writer who knows where to look. Most of them charge $40 an hour. It might be worth it in the long run. However, make sure you know there success rate.

Social Security

in response to Starshine...   This is where you need to write to your representatives. People who have worked all their life and supported this country aren't qualify yet immigrants coming in from other countries who have never paid into the system are qualifying for disability insurance. What's with that. I can name you person after person who has come in with diabetes and aren't citizens and qualify immediately. We all need to stand up to the government on this issue.

free money to help pay bills

in response to aballer53141...   It is probably in your best interest to file medical bankruptcy. Then you can set up arrangements to make your regular monthly bills. You will have to find a bankruptcy lawyer. All of them will give a free consultation. Have your bills organized and amounts ready. They will want to know how much is in medical, living costs, credit cards, secured and unsecured loans and income. I would start there if I was you. Things will get better if you do. It does take time.

You are one of the lucky ones. Usually if they ask for money they are bogus and you don't make any money. There are many people out there that could use your information. I don't need it but I am always getting advertisements to work online and from the research I have done most of them are bogus. Best of luck to you

About jana4

in response to ladytech...   Thank you I am using Go Daddy and tripod. I have a friend who has experience with these sites and they are inexpensive. In regards to body parts, my most serious is the degenerative arthritis in my back and feet. Some mornings I can't stand at all. However, something has triggered my knees this week and I can't even touch them they are painful to the touch. They tell me I don't have arthritis in the knees but I know I do. I also have an intensive skin condition that has flaired. They call it dermititis but I think my body is toxically posioned and my skin is reacting from internal problems. The doctors say it's external. But food triggers it. I itch so bad I want to climb out of my skin and my skin bleeds at the touch. I break out with lesions all over. I am going to home rememdies that work for me cuz no one is really understanding the skin condition. God Bless and good luck

Social Security

 in response to RALPH7...

You are one of the lucky ones. They are still denying many people who are in need of disability. I know of one situation where she will probably be dead before they approve it and it's going on seven years. They have also gotten very picky about disability in the last two years. They are not approving for some things that were approved before and that is why they now have the list of 50 qualifying areas. I have been waiting two years. My doctor is furious and I was just called by my attorney this week and the appeal was denied. I now have to start the complete process over. I can only stand fifteen minutes and walk one fourth of a block due to the pain in my back. I have been through tons of medical evaluations. I have no income and the system is broke. I have been told by both social security and my attorney that If I become homeless and go to a shelter I will get it faster. Why should I? I paid into the system for forty years. It really depends on your type of disability. I have a friend whose husband can't breathe and has severe problems daily. It took him six months to qualify. I talk with people on a daily basis who are struggling to qualify including people who have reached the age of social security and it takes forever. But with disabilities the average is 3-5 years. This is my field of expertise and I deal with this on a daily basis. I have another friend who has been fighting for three years due to severe injuries from domestic violence which not only affected her ability to work but her ability to walk. They won't even talk to her before May. People don't realize how many ligitimate situations are being pushed aside and having to wait and their is no help for housing, food, etc if you don't have children. It's a very serious situation which is only going to be compounded by our economy.
